Oliver Burton

Short Biography

My name is Oliver Burton and I am a website Designer from Plymouth. I'm originally from Nottingham and have a degree in Computer Science
(Games Technology). After my three years at university I decided to have a change and here I am on the South Coast with my own website design business! I have been interested website design since my second year at university and have spent alot of my spare time learning and developing my skills.

I recently spent six months working as a communications assistant, during this time my main duties were the creation and management of a social media campaign.

I am also currently studying for an MSc in Web Applications Development at the University of Plymouth

What about Web Design?

I have been designing websites for almost four years now and if I don't have a project on I will usually be pursuing one of my own. I make an effort to learn new technologies to improve my designs and I believe that you can never learn enough which is why I can often be found reading books on website design and SEO.

What knowledge do I have?

  • HCI - At university I studied human computer interaction and how to design interfaces with usability in mind which translates well into web design
  • Databse Normalisation - I studed how to remove redundant and repeated data from relation databases using normalisation
  • Programming - I am a programmer by nature so tend to excel when using languages such as php
  • SEO - During my Internet Development module we covered search engine optimisation and I have learned new skills through my own reading
  • Graphic Design - During my spare time I develop games for the xbox 360 , this experience has introduced me to a variety of graphics packages and has allowed me to improve my skills
